IT lecture presentation to senior staff of Ministry of petroleum
I was invited to deliver a 1 hour 30 minutes lecture in a leadership training program organised for senior staff of ministry of petroleum in Abuja from 11th to 15th September 2017, on an IT topic relevant to the audience in the 21st century and in line with the theme of the program; Leadership best practices.
I prepared my lecture and presentation slides on the topic Information retrieval and advanced internet services and held the lecture with them on the 14th. The presentation went on well in a highly interactive manner, I explained terms and processes and we all discussed on certain issues relating to how relevant IT is to them and their work processes in the offices. They were particularly responsive to the area of internet security, cryptography and how cryptography is changing the way we bank and transact money in the form of cryptocurrencies with Bitcoin as a case study.
In the area of information retrieval, I explained from basics what a computer is, the history and evolution of computers, servers and data centres. I used a simple animation I prepared on power point to explain how the internet really works. Emphasis was laid on the importance of data and information in the 21st century and how data has now become the world’s most valuable resource more than oil. I expanded on how information retrieval system work with Google search engine as a case study; the concept of web crawling, indexing, data serving, recommendations and ranking.
I was really glad to know that they were happy with my presentation from the comments and contributions they all made. To view the lecture slides, click this; Information Retrieval and Advanced Internet Services
